Free flashcard maker for students

Make flashcards online in seconds and study them the smart way: flip cards, quizzes, typing and listening, with spaced repetition that brings each card back right before you would forget it.

A flashcard maker built for studying

Flipsy is a free flashcard maker for students and language learners. You type a term on one side and its meaning on the other, and your study cards are ready. It works in the browser, so there is nothing to install: open it on your laptop at home or on your phone on the bus.

Making the cards is only half the job. Flipsy also tells you what to review and when. Its spaced repetition (FSRS) tracks how well you know each card and shows it again right before you would forget it, so you spend your time on the cards you actually struggle with.

What's free

Everything you need to learn is free: making online flashcards, unlimited study sessions, the flip, quiz, typing and listening modes, spaced repetition and study streaks. There are no ads, and the learning itself never goes behind a paywall.

The free plan holds 10 folders, 30 sets and 500 cards per set, which is enough for a whole school year of subjects. Pro only adds extra storage for people who need more sets than that. It does not unlock any study mode.

Make flashcards online in 30 seconds

1. Open Flipsy and create a new set, for example "Biology: cells" or "Spanish verbs".

2. Type your cards, or paste a list of terms and definitions. You can also turn a PDF or a block of notes into cards with the text import.

3. Press Study and pick a mode. Start with flip cards, then test yourself with a quiz or by typing the answer.

More than study cards online

Already have sets somewhere else? Import them from Quizlet or Anki and keep studying where you left off. Learning geography? Flipsy has free map quizzes for countries, oceans and continents.

Study streaks keep you coming back every day, and short sessions add up: ten minutes a day with spaced repetition beats one long night of cramming before the test.

Questions students ask

Yes. Making flashcards and studying them is free, with no ads and no trial. The free plan holds 10 folders, 30 sets and 500 cards per set. Pro only adds extra storage.

Do I need to install an app?

No. Flipsy runs in your browser on a computer, tablet or phone, so you can make flashcards online and study them anywhere.

How do I study my flashcards once they're made?

Can I make flashcards from my notes or a PDF?

Can I bring my sets from Quizlet or Anki?

Yes. The importer takes your Quizlet or Anki export and turns it into a Flipsy set in a few seconds.
